Job Description

The Sales State Head is responsible for leading and managing the entire sales operations for a specific state. This includes developing and executing state-level sales strategies, managing a team of area/regional managers, expanding distribution channels, and ensuring revenue growth and market share improvement. The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and an in-depth understanding of local market dynamics.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution:

    • Develop and implement sales strategies aligned with national objectives.

    • Forecast and manage state sales budgets and targets.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Area Sales Managers, Territory Sales Managers, and Sales Executives.

    • Drive performance management and capability building of the sales team.

  • Channel Management:

    • Expand and optimize the distribution network (wholesalers, distributors, retailers).

    • Monitor channel performance and resolve conflicts if any.

  • Business Development:

    • Identify new business opportunities, markets, and customer segments.

    • Drive promotional and activation initiatives to increase market penetration.

  • Market Intelligence:

    • Track competitor activity, market trends, and customer preferences.

    • Use data to refine strategies and improve sales outcomes.

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Ensure adherence to company policies, compliance, and governance.

    • Collaborate with supply chain, marketing, and finance for smooth operations.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (MBA preferred).

  • 8–12 years of sales experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record in sales planning and execution at a regional/state level.

  • Strong understanding of distribution and retail sales.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

  • Proficient in data analysis, reporting tools, and CRM systems.
