Job Purpose / Summary:

The Area Credit Manager is responsible for managing the credit underwriting function for Business Banking customers within the assigned area. The role involves evaluating credit proposals, managing portfolio quality, ensuring compliance with credit policies, and supporting business growth in line with risk guidelines.

The individual will act as a key link between the regional credit function and field teams, ensuring efficient credit decisioning, strong risk controls, and portfolio health across SME and mid-market

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Oversee credit appraisal and underwriting of business banking proposals within the assigned area, ensuring adherence to credit policies and regulatory norms.

· Review and approve credit proposals within delegated authority and recommend proposals to higher authorities when required.

· Assess borrower risk through detailed financial analysis, industry evaluation, and business model understanding.

· Guide credit analysts and relationship teams in structuring proposals and mitigating credit risks.

· Monitor the area credit portfolio to ensure asset quality, profitability, and early identification of stress accounts.

· Track portfolio trends and initiate corrective actions to minimize delinquency and NPAs.

· Support resolution and management of stressed assets, including restructuring and recovery strategies.

· Ensure strict adherence to credit risk frameworks, internal policies, and regulatory requirements,

· Conduct periodic portfolio and process reviews to identify gaps and implement improvements.

· Collaborate closely with business teams to achieve growth objectives while maintaining credit discipline.

· Coordinate with auditors, risk teams, and senior management on credit matters and portfolio performance.

· Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and clients.

· Drive process efficiency, digitization, and automation initiatives within the credit function.

· Mentor and develop junior credit team members at the area level.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

· Portfolio health (delinquency rates, NPA levels, risk-weighted assets).

· Turnaround time for credit approvals.

· Approval quality and credit decision accuracy

· Area business growth supported with prudent credit risk

· Compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements.

Experience / Skillset / Certifications Required:

· Educational Qualification- CA, MBA (Finance) & Other financial Background

 

· Relevant Job Experience- 5+ Years

 

 

Skills and Competencies-

· Strong credit underwriting and financial analysis skills

· Knowledge of credit risk frameworks, loan structuring, and regulatory

· Ability to assess complex credit proposals and recommend structured solutions

· Portfolio monitoring and risk mitigation expertise

· Stakeholder management and business partnering skills

· Leadership and team handling capabilities

· Strong communication and decision-making skills
