Key Responsibilities

1. Understand the Publishing Ecosystem

  • Develop a deep understanding of publishers' operational, commercial and strategic challenges.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Editorial, Production, Supply Chain, Finance, Sales and Distribution functions.
  • Understand publisher requirements around print planning, inventory, reprints, pricing, working capital, distribution and digital transformation.
  • Identify recurring pain points and emerging trends across different publishing segments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with publishers and key industry stakeholders.
  • Convert market conversations into structured insights and actionable recommendations for CDC's leadership.

2. Product & Service Proposition Development

  • Identify opportunities where CDC's printing, packaging, technology and related capabilities can solve specific publisher challenges.
  • Evaluate the commercial feasibility and potential business impact of new ideas.
  • Work closely with management, production and technology teams to develop service propositions, pilots and solutions.
  • Define the value proposition, target customer segment, business case and potential pricing approach for new initiatives.
  • Monitor pilot outcomes and refine propositions based on publisher feedback.
  • Clearly identify areas where CDC can and cannot add value.

3. Publisher Community & Industry Engagement

  • Take ownership of CDC's Publisher Community and industry engagement initiatives.
  • Develop the content agenda and themes for publisher-focused events, forums and knowledge-sharing programmes.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to organise relevant industry events and interactions.
  • Use these initiatives to generate meaningful publisher insights and strengthen CDC's industry positioning.
  • Build CDC's visibility and credibility within the publishing ecosystem.

4. Marketing & Market Communication

  • Develop a strong understanding of different publisher segments and their specific business needs.
  • Reposition CDC's publisher-facing communication around business outcomes and customer value, rather than purely technical printing capabilities.
  • Develop compelling content, case studies, presentations, pitch decks and other marketing collateral.
  • Create market intelligence and segment-specific insights to support the sales team.
  • Identify relevant industry trends and translate them into marketing opportunities.
  • Work with internal teams to communicate CDC's technology and service capabilities in a simple, commercially relevant manner.

5. Business Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Track market trends across trade, K-12, higher education, academic and children's publishing.
  • Analyse competitive offerings, customer expectations and emerging business models.
  • Identify potential gaps in the market that CDC can address.
  • Develop structured business cases and recommendations for new initiatives.
  • Support management in strategic decision-making related to publishers, products, services and market positioning.
  • Keep CDC informed about developments such as AI, digital publishing, print-on-demand, inventory optimisation and technology-led publishing solutions.
